Mid-century Modern Meets Coastal Retreat
Filled with an eclectic mix of mid-century modern and coastal design elements The Beach Quarter is the family home of Paula and Tim who moved to the Tweed Coast to be closer to family after living in London, New York
and Sydney.
Paula and Tim were looking for a house to call a family home in 2019 when the property market in Kingscliff and Casuarina was slow. The house they eventually found was in a part of Kingscliff they had not considered but immediately captured their interest. A large block, close to the township of Kingscliff, with a back lane entrance for easy access to Dreamtime Beach and the large 1970’s arches that not only protected the front of the house from the western sun but also provided character and charm.
The home itself required very little work having been respectfully renovated by its previous owner, however it was too small for a family of five so the owners set to work to make it their own. The owners added another level to the home which includes a parents retreat with a master bedroom and ensuite, large walk-in-robe and extra bedroom which is currently used as a study. Inspired from the renovation downstairs, the owners wanted the upstairs area to tie seamlessly with the downstairs renovation and used pattern tiles on the bathroom floor with the white subway tiles on the walls which tied to the kitchen and bathroom downstairs. After much deliberation about the wardrobe, it was eventually decided that an Ikea wardrobe would be practical and within the budget.
The family loves hanging out together in the kitchen/living area and the kids swim in the pool daily from November through to April, in the warm weather.
“We both have a mutual love of art, but being a little sentimental, the artwork in the house has to not only be visually appealing but also have some relevance to our lives. Every piece of art in the house is special to the owners. From the ‘Soak it up! Montauk’ wooden painting that sits outside (it was purchased in the Hamptons), the large Saumur Champigny poster which was purchased in their local neighborhood Tribeca, New York as a 4th anniversary present (fruit and flowers), a painting done by Paula’s Aunt (a local Byron artist) which was gifted as a wedding present of Mount Warning from Byron Bay that sits at the top of the staircase, and the more recently two photos purchased for the parent’s retreat of Bondi (where Paula lived before marriage and kids). “I can spend hours on the internet searching for beautiful art work, but in the end, I only hang items that are meaningful and provide a connection to our lives”.
Living in a holiday location makes it feel like holidays all year long. The Beach Quarter is rented via Airbnb, hosted by Howzit Management, for school holidays and available for location shoot hire through Aloca (https://aloca.com.au)
