AndoRock Highlands:
A Dream and Vision Brought to Life
Sharon Rockliff, co-owner of AndoRock Highlands, recently sat down with Tweed Coast Living to discuss the incredible journey that led to the creation of their Highland cattle farm, a place of natural beauty, peace, and a shared love of animals and the environment. Sharon and her partner, Daniel, made the life-changing move from Western Sydney to the Northern Rivers region in 2013, and they have never looked back.
The Beginning of a Dream
Sharon’s affection for Highland cattle began much like many others—through images and videos of these majestic animals on the internet. “I first fell in love with Highland cattle just like everyone else. They were all over the internet, but I never imagined we would one day have a farm full of them,” Sharon recalls. However, it wasn’t until Daniel purchased a breeding pair as a gift for Sharon that their love for the breed deepened. “What girl does not want to be given a Highland cow as a present?” she jokes, reflecting on how this thoughtful gift transformed their lives.
Growing the Fold
With the arrival of their first pair, Sharon and Daniel began breeding and growing their fold. “It wasn’t just about having these animals; it was about sharing the joy they brought us with others,” Sharon explains. Their vision expanded and soon they were helping others enjoy Highland cattle on their own farms. “We’re a registered breeder with the Highland Cattle Society,” Sharon adds. “Our goal is to produce high-quality animals with great temperaments, ensuring that every new home for our cattle is a good one.”
To achieve this, the couple uses a bull affectionately named Spud and AI (artificial insemination) techniques to carefully select the best breeding stock.
In 2021, Sharon and Daniel officially launched AndoRock Highlands, a name born from the combination of their last names. “Truth be told, it was the easiest idea we could think of!” Sharon laughs. But beyond the name, it was Daniel’s vision and dedication that turned their dream into a reality. “Daniel’s endless energy and hard work made this place what it is today,” Sharon says proudly. AndoRock Highlands is now not only a cattle farm but a beautiful paradise that the couple is proud to call home.
A Wildlife Haven
Daniel’s commitment to the environment extends far beyond their cattle. His passion for nature has transformed their property into a wildlife haven.
Sharon explains, “Daniel’s love for animals and the environment is something that guides every decision we make. Our property is now part of the Land for Wildlife program, helping to manage areas for biodiversity, habitat preservation, and nature conservation.”
While managing their farm, Sharon and Daniel balance full-time careers in the Tweed area as an electrician and a Registered Nurse. “It’s a busy lifestyle, but we love the versatility our work offers,” says Sharon. The location of their farm is another blessing. “We’re just 20 minutes from the Gold Coast Airport and less than an hour from Byron Shire, so we have easy access to major cities, but still get to come home to this beautiful, peaceful place every day,” Sharon adds.
At the end of each busy workday, Sharon and Daniel retreat to their farm, where they find solace in their animals and surroundings. “We both unwind by brushing and interacting with the cows. It’s such a peaceful way to end a hectic day, and the views of the hills and the ocean line of Coolangatta are breathtaking,” says Sharon.
From City Girl to Farmer
Sharon, a former city girl, never imagined owning a farm, but her unexpected journey has taught her more than she ever expected. “I’ve come to love every moment of it,” she says with a smile. For Daniel, farming is a lifestyle he’s always known, inspired by his visits to Bingara in the New England region of NSW. The move from the fast-paced city to the peaceful rhythms of the Northern Rivers has been life-changing for both of them. Sharon reflects, “It’s hard to describe the feeling of moving from city life to this— the natural beauty, slower pace, and connection to the land are things you can’t fully grasp until you experience them.” Their farm has become more than just a home; it’s a dream to create a space where others can connect with nature and animals in a meaningful way.
AndoRock Highlands is more than just a cattle farm—it’s a photographer’s dream. The property offers a variety of stunning locations perfect for all styles of photography. From a running creek surrounded by tropical gardens to a picturesque bridgeway with scenic hill views, there’s no shortage of beautiful backdrops. “If you’re a photographer looking for that perfect location, we’re the place to go,” Sharon says. “We offer a unique opportunity to capture memorable moments with our stunning cows and the breathtaking landscape.”
For filmmakers, AndoRock Highlands is an ideal film shoot location, with its diverse landscapes offering a wide range of possibilities for backdrop scenes in any type of film. Sharon adds, “We’ve had several inquiries for film shoots because the property provides such a versatile range of beautiful backdrops.”
AndoRock Highlands also provides the opportunity for guests to spend quality time with their Highland cows. “You can brush and feed one of our beautiful girls and create lasting memories,” Sharon invites. The farm also offers family photography sessions, where families can capture beautiful moments with these gentle creatures in the stunning natural surroundings.
Looking to the future, AndoRock Highlands has plans to offer a complete proposal package for couples seeking the perfect place to pop the question. “We want to create the perfect stress-free setting for that magical moment,” Sharon shares. The couple also plans to offer picnic experiences, inviting guests to relax and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere while surrounded by nature.
