Dancing into the School Holidays
Don’t miss the kick off to the spring school holidays with the event,Momentum Youth Festival, brought to you by Tweed Coast Youth Service (TCYS). TCYS is the amazing volunteer run youth service, the only one of its kind on the Tweed Coast.
Celebrate our youth and community at the Momentum Youth Festival held at Les Burger oval in Cabarita Beach on Sunday 25th September from 12pm-8pm. This free, and guranteed fun event, will bring an afternoon of youth music, markets and great food!
The Tweed Coast Youth Service has been serving our youth since 2009. Formerly, the Cabarita Youth Service, the organisation’s dedicated volutneers discovered the overwhelming need for a service that spanned the entire Tweed Coast, in order to support as many youth as possible. Since its conception, over 400 local youth annually have been supported through TCYS’s diverse range of programs and activities.
School Holiday Program
Every school holidays TCYS runs a comprehensive, low cost, healthy and active program of full day activities for Tweed based youth to join. This program is delivered to several local primary schools for distribution to all year 5 and 6 students (as our activities are for ages 11 and up) and Kingscliff High School. These activities are well supervised (all TCYS team have WWCC), are low cost to be as inclusive as possible. Known youth who cannot afford the program are regularly fully subsidised by TCYS and healthy meals are always provided as part of the day. All activities are run on a not-for-profit basis and generally subsidised to a degree.
‘Girls Space’
This new and empowering program is offered free to high-school aged young women in the Tweed. Its aim is to support participants so that they may achieve a level of confidence in their own abilities and skills that will help them make appropriate choices. Some of the topics covered include body image, self confidence and trust, how your body works, bullying, mental health financial well-being, drama and craft, and much more.
Local Youth Local Employers
This program aims to engage young people 15 years and older across the entire Tweed Shire into training and employment. These youth are disengaged from school and typically have no employment history and are generally classified as disadvantaged or ‘at risk’.
The strength of the program is the intensive support given by Tweed Coast Youth Service and the partnering with community minded businesses that wish to ‘give back’ and be part of the story for a local young person.
TCYS is always looking for new volunteers and since they are not government funded, donations of any size is always welcome.
